New Zealand Imposes Travel Bans on Israelis Amid West Bank Settler Violence
According to reports, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced Tuesday that the sanctions target three people alleged to have played an active role in settlement expansion through violent actions.
“These travel bans are targeted at three individuals who have actively worked to expand illegal settlements in the West Bank, including through violence,” Peters said.
Under the decision, the individuals will be barred from entering New Zealand.
Peters said the move brings New Zealand into line with international partners, including Australia and the EU, amid growing concerns that settler-related violence is damaging efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
He also stressed that the restrictions are aimed at specific individuals and should not be viewed as measures against Israel's government or its population.
The decision comes as international attention increasingly focuses on violence in the occupied West Bank. According to reports, UN experts recently warned that attacks targeting Palestinians have reached troubling levels, raising concerns about the potential displacement of local communities.
As stated by reports, repeated incidents involving assaults, intimidation, property destruction, and limitations on access to farmland and other resources are making it increasingly difficult for many Palestinians to remain in their communities.
